Premise
Sunshine, as a universe, isn't quite what people normally think of with the word 'sunshine'. The word normally brings to mind fluffy kittens and warm summer days. While many things appear to be much brighter, happier, and dare say it, better in places when compared to the dark, abyssal background of canon... that isn't entirely true.
Where there is sunshine, there are shadows, and let it not be forgotten that sunshine burns.
Drastic changes from Naruto canon seem to be good in theory: in Konoha, Uchiha Obito was saved by the Yondaime Hokage and lives on as Hokage of Konoha after his mentor's retirement. Because of this, the Kyuubi was never released on Konoha and the Uchiha never rebelled. They instead thrive within the village, avid protectors of their home who are much more integrated than canon left them. They are not bound inside clan walls, and it's done them a service.
Uzushio was rebuilt in the years of peace, and even Rain seemed willing to open their borders. After all, Obito, in his drive to improve Konoha, and to prove himself to his family, garnered the most expansive peace the Elemental nations had known, banding the five major nations together and making travel and communication far easier with his negotiations.
Unfortunately, the solution wasn't permanent, and the Kage Nations, while mighty, are not the entire world by any stretch of the imagination. War has recently started because of this, and in Suna, Rasa, the Yondaime Kazekage was recently killed. In Kiri, Yagura, while not the bloodthirsty beast that caused the bloodline massacres, is recently dead, to say nothing of Water's Daimyo. Lightning, the last country that felt the full brunt of the opening charge, has lost their Daimyo as well.
Through all this, Orochimaru watches from the sidelines, waiting to see just how things might fall apart, and he's hardly the only one.

For your character, this could mean a game of politics, battles, secretive missions, and deadly alliances, all leading to the cautious shaping of Sunshine's future. Please keep in mind that just because something is happening doesn't mean you'll be forced to play it, but the option is there for those who enjoy the deeper side of games.
Ninja characters will be in prime position to affect the pull of politics and war, while civilian characters are more likely to be successful at avoiding these intricacies if they so choose. Then again, civilians are the cause of many a mission, are they not? Wars have begun over less, and insults are sometimes far too easy to pay. Politics are confined to no one, if you so wish to involve yourself in them. The newly started war is part of the overarching mod plot, which the players are kept generally apprised of, but the player-characters will, through their choices and actions, determine the intensity of this plotted course.
Our Activity method means that people will have more than their share of chances to affect the course of the game, after all.
Sunshine is a game that accepts all characters. For anyone canon, be they a fandom or an OC, well, those characters just have to sort themselves into the disorienting situation that is finding yourself dropped in the middle of an unfamiliar (or if from Naruto canon, possibly painfully familiar) village with no clue as to what is going on.
For anyone going Native, and we'll take anyone for this, OCs, different canons, minor characters, even Naruto characters, they will undergo a back-story overhaul, as decided by their player, to fit the Alternate Timeline of this setting. So if you ever wanted to see what your character would be like if they were a ninja, a shopkeeper, or perhaps a nobleman in a Daimyo's house... well, here's your chance.
